About caravanning

The term caravanning (or caravaning) is translated into Russian as: “tourism by recreational vehicles”. Caravanning is a kind of tourism and is extremely popular both in America and Europe. As for Russia, there aren’t as many followers here. However, the situation is slowly changing for the better.

There are some references to “mobile homes” in the history of Ancient Egypt. But their more or less modern prototypes are those which brought the émigrés to the Wild West. By the way, sticking to traditions is one of the reasons which make the United States the leader of caravanning business.

Caravanning started to develop in 1930’s in Germany. But as the WWII broke up, its further development as an industry was stopped. By the end of 1950’s the German holding “HYMER” made revolutionary changes in the automobile industry. It was then when the first “motor homes” were put in mass production. They could room several people and were designed for long-term travels. Old traditions provided the country with a large number of campings – parkings for “motor caravans” with special parking sites and various services. In Germany, the motherland of caravanning, there are over three thousand such camping sites. Most campings in Russia cannot provide the same services as in Europe, but modern parking sites with a wide range of necessary services are being built now.

Caravanning is a common kind of tourism which allows dually travel with a whole family and stay in a cozy home-like atmosphere. Caravanning is becoming a new philosophy of travel comprising economy, mobility, comfort and independence.
